What exactly is mill fabric and what does it look like. My understanding is that it from a conveyer belt in a paper mill. Is it actually a type of thick perforated fabric or is it made of metal? thanks

Kathy, I believe it is used to drain the water from the pulp from a paper mill. It is light, porous, material, and has a somewhat slick surface. This works well because the pumpkin bottom slides easily as it grows, preventing it from possibly "buckling" underneath. Water also flows through it, so your fruit won't be sitting in water.

Kathyt,it also stops mice and other rodents from chewing up through the pumpkin bottom, also if you have a vine problem your pumpkin willmove easy on the mill fabric.

Kathy, it is a mesh nylon material that is light. Since most pumpkins are grown on a bed of sand this is a good material to put over the sand to protect the pumpkin. Because it is a mesh it allows any water to flow through it. It does make it easy to adjust the pumpkin.
