Today Marc Petersen and myself travel to Marshaltown Iowa to partake in the IFVG association's winter seminar(http://www.iafruitvegetablegrowers.org/ under upcoming events....friday's itinerary...at 3:30p.m.) we were asked if we could do something on growing giant pumpkins for competion in Iowa and we accepted. well the day has come and Marc has done a wonderful job putting together a power point slide show taking the audience thru a season from fall prep to harvest of seeds. My wife saw it for the first time last night and was floored at how nice it has turned out. My hat is off to MArc and his efforts. yes it will be a fast paced run thru to fit it all in but they should walk out of there with an idea of how to get it done so to speak. Not to mention a few seeds in their pockets if they choose to give it a shot!!LOL!!
I almost for got to mention that they will also get a first hand look at new seedlings emerging from the soil as I have sprouted a few plants(4) to take with, provided they survive the trip and the minus 15 degrees we currently have!! darn that is cold.
I guess my point is I want to thank everyone at this site who keeps and maintains a diary as a lot of our pics for the show have come from this site. There were tons of great pics to choose from and for that we owe all those involved a thank you.
So in the effort to promote and grow our hobby (sport, sickness or whatever you wish to call it!!LOL!)we all so dearly love, Marc and I will be doing our best today at 3:30..wish us the best
THANKS
DAN

Good Job Dan & Marc. I'd like to get a copy of that powerpoint at sometime since I can't make it to Iowa. Wish you the very best at the seminar and hope for a nice turnout. Both of your growing styles are gaining big in popularity and good sense. Hats off! Don

we are home and I have to admitt.....it WAS a blast....you have to know MArc and I and how we go about things...We like alot of crowd interventions and or alot of laughs...and we got them right from the start to the end. I think we wowwed alot of them and I think we laid it out in such a fashion that they were not overwhelmed with the whole thing. After all you need to spoon feed the newbies and get them addicted before they realize just how much work there is but by then they can;t stop growing even if they wanted to!!!
The Power point was very nice BUT it isn't the all inclusive informational type deal. it was more used for keeping us on track and goign forward from seed start to the seed harvest. Sorry I really don;t think the Power point would be what you guys would really want.I could try and email it. some of the pics are nice..drop me a Personal message if you want me to try and send it
DAN
