Dear AbbyPappy,
I feel that I must be suffering from the Winter Blues. While I admit, I live in a climate that has very mild winters with only snow in the mountains and very seldom at sea level....I still find myself a bit of a cranky pants lately.
Home life is good, family is good, patch appears ready to pop a big one next year, yet I still find myself bothered by the little things on bigpumpkins.com from time to time.
Several of us have been pestered by newcomer White Pumpkin which has been irritating, Abbypappy was referred to as "lame" in a recent column, Peace Wayne was called a 5 year old by the same person, auction winners have not stepped up and paid for what they bid on, controversy abounds regarding the Superbowl, I have been impatient with McPumpkins (but come on...that is funny!!) and generally we all have the Winter Blues right now.
My question is, do you have any advice to get us through to April when things will again return to normal?
Thanks/Glenn aka North Shore Boyz

GLENN
ABBYPAPPY SAYS "HAVE NO FEAR SPRING IS NEAR" IT HELPS TO TAKE A DAILY STROLL AROUND THE PATCH AS WELL.
UNFORTUNATELY IN THIS HOBBY AS WELL AS LIFE ITSELF GLENN THERES ALWAYS THAT CERTAIN SMALL PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO "STIR THE POT" --THATS SAYING IT NICELY OF COURSE.
THAT PERSON FEELS 10 FT TALL HIDING BEHIND A COMPUTER AND ARE USUALLY ALSO THE TYPE THAT COULD NOT FUNCTION IN A GROUP ACTIVITY- THEY ALSO LIKE TO WRITE DIRTY THINGS ON BATHROOM WALLS AS WELL ID GUESS ?
THE BEST CURE FOR THE AGRESSIVE POSTER IS TO DO AND SAY NOTHING IN REPLY. SILENCE IS GOLDEN
BESIDES YA CANT LET A FEW SPOIL IT FOR THE MANY
"LAME" ? ABBYPAPPY

Hi abbypappy, How long can you expect to wait for a return bubble envelope. A while back someone said contac them about getting a pumpkin seed, I sent them a bubble and am still waiting. Did I misunderstand what they ment when they said contac them? people send out return bubbles when they have the time to, sometimes fall, sometimes not until spring? Thanks

abbypappy says
it takes all kinds of CRITTERS to make UNCLE PAPPIES FRITTERS
some send them back right away, some send them hopefully before may.
The BUBBLIER must always be patient and wait for the BUBBLIE to respond.

Dear Abbypappy, The strangest thing happened and I don't know what to make of it. While I was surfing the site for the Niagra convention my wife walks into the room and asked what I was looking at. After explaining it to her she says "we should go". I was stunned beyond words. Had my wife actually just said that???? Believe it or not I resisted the idea but after a whole afternoon she convinced me to sign up so now we will be on our way to Niagra for the first time! Should I be concerned about my wifes behavior? Is this normal or am I blessed?

abbypappy says ya got a keeper there mark
after she experiences the falls, the casinos, the seminars, the endless pumpkin chatter, the booze, the lusting, the male strip joints (opps check that one-lol) and she wants to come back again next year ? then you need to buy her something she has always wanted.
a helpful hint though, dont mention niagara for at least a month or so after the season has ended. give her time to recover from the season---lol

Dear Abbypappy,
What do you do in the Winter time to beat the winter blues? I have been doing everything I can to keep busy, reading Backyard Giants (I am almost done), filing seeds, and practicing germinating them for later in the season. I've signed up for Niagara, but we are still getting Winter weather, in fact, due to get some nasty weather tomorrow, rain, snow, sleet, all the fun things in life. Any suggestions on what I can do til April to keep things moving? Can I try growing a Giant pumpkin in my basement to keep me company? There is an old hot tub in there that I'm itching to fill with dirt to try and grow in a "pit" like atmosphere and see what happens. Am I crazy?

abbypappy says buy the book "teaming with microbes" or any other publications that explain how the soil really works.
you can read it many times over and still learn something important each time
the book covers everything form soup to nuts of soils and good growing conditions.
the key is and always will be the soil. we cant control the weather,we cant control lady luck, but we can control the soil we plant in.
