Start at the Proxy amount and work from there.

"Start with the Proxy" works better to me...
"Bidding up to the Proxy" works better for the auction holders...

Same as eBay.

Proxy bids would definitely save bidders some money, but since that translates into the auctions getting less for their seeds I doubt they will be used. Sure would make life easier though!

Starting with the proxy means that the proxy shows his/her hand before the bidding even starts. We've only used proxy bidding on our weeknight auctions when some bidders express interest in a lot(s) but they will be away from their computer.

Proxy sometimes only option for me.
And i have no problem if my name is shown. What's the problem anyway?

I have placed a proxy bid once, and was happy to win the lot. I work at a nursing home, and am scheduled to work every other weekend, on the evening shift. So I miss out on about half of the seed auctions. It's nice to have the proxy option if I really want a lot. If there would be a lot I really wanted, and proxy bidding wasn't allowed, I'd likely try to get someone to bid for me. But proxy bidding is less hassle.

Gary - I took the proxy bids for the NY auction. Only one out of the 7 or so placed actually won.

what I did was to let the first couple bids happen in live chat. most of the proxy bids were outbid right away, and the chatroom bidders never knew there had been a proxy placed. If the bidding was slow and low enough to jump in, I did so for the proxy and bid in 5 or 10 dollar steps.
