hey everyone i am obssessed. My girlfriend is very jealous of this site. i am always on it reading trying to figure out how to grow a big one. This is just goin to be my first year can someone tell me it's goin to get better or am i doomed to constantly think about these giants the rest of my life. i'm not thinking it would be a bad thing.

JoeMan,
It's NOT a bad thing. But when women(or men) who don't understand are involved, something will have to give.

Joe, Welcome to the madness. Run while you still can. Oh ya it does get better growing season starts, then she can come visit you out in the patch, as long as she's there maybe she'll pull some weeds for you.
Best of luck in 08
Kenny

its not uncommon to become completely takem in by the hobby
much like any other hobbiest falls in love with his or her latest project, you tend to become obsessed for that moment in time.you can block out those around you and not even realize it
my best advise is to set aside certain times of the day when you will work on your hobby and also set aside some time daily for the spouse and family so everything gets a good balance
a pumpkin last a short time. you family lasts forever
id suggest
7 am to 5 pm pumpkins 5 pm to 8 pm dinner and beers 8 pm to 9 pm family hour 9 pm to 9:10 pm private time with spouse 9:10 to 10 pm last minute chat on bp 10 pm to 7 am sleep and dream of a giant prize winner

When I got into this 4 years ago, I really thought it would wear off after a while. Well, it hasn't it just gets worse (Better). Unfortunatly, if can interfear with regular life and as pap points out, you need to make time for her, even if it is only 10 minutes a day!

If she is going to weed make sure she stays ON the Walking Boards!! Don't need any unecessary soil compaction. Also a nice pair of Garden Gloves, and a wide brim hat to keep the sun off her when you're having this Quality time with your spouse. 2nd year AGs Kevin

So what if it's the other way around with the husband, do those rules still apply Pap? After the patch amendments are done, it's MY job to grow the pumpkin. So with that, it's more time in the patch til dark and after. Grab a quick dinner, and out to the patch til the work is "done" for the day.
5pm-8pm dinner and Wine, thank you! Not a beer fan.
I'll try the time line and see how it works. This will be my third season and am really excited, and can't wait til Spring. I've been told to grow a bigger pumpkin, or I have to retire, NOooooooooooooo. I can't retire. Can you say addicted, LOL! What then?

Hey Joe, At least your girlfriend hasn't called you a dork yet!!!! Has she? My wife has. I tell her it is for my boys too! They love it. Dont worry, once she sees how these things grow, she may come around.
