My hopes are for two big and orange pumpkins. I think these seeds should deliver as long as I can stay out of their way.I will probably start them in a week.

I started the six seeds on April 21. I soaked them in peroxide and water. So far 5 of 6 have sprouted. The 2183 Paton is the one that I am waiting on. I had noticed a crack on the face of the seed before soaking.

Finally got my plants in the dirt
Tuesday, May 18 View Page
I made the decision yesterday to pull my first set of plants and went with my backups. I had overwatered the plants as seedlings. There was hardly any root growth and all plants were wilted in 80f. The backups are two weeks younger and almost already the size of my starters. The backups are 2200 Geddes, 1866 Cleveland, 1298 Clementz and 750 Wallacce

I went from removing the hoop houses straight to the shade netting. It will be in the 90s for the next four days. This is nuts. Where is the spring weather!

Unfortunately this double main vine is on my fastest growing plant. On a positive note the 2200 Geddes is looking good and ready to take off. Glad I grew two plants side by side

I culled the 1298 Clementz because of the ribbon vine and the split. I think the Geddes 2200 was going to win out anyways

Kink in the main vine of the 1866. Do I cull?
Sunday, June 13 View Page
The 1866 is the larger plant but has the kink. The 750 1928x1911 is a foot shorter on the vine . Do I cull the 1866 because of the kink?

I got my shade/hail netting installed just before a storm.

I culled the 750 today. So I am all in with the 1866 Cleveland and 2200 Geddes. The pic is of the 1866.

I selfed the 1866 Cleveland at 10 ft. It was a 4 lobe but a high of 96f today so hopefully the pollination takes.

I took a gamble and went on a extended weekend vacation hoping that my female flowers wouldnít open until my return. Well I was wrong and they both opened. The one seems to have been pollinated which is good but I now wonít know the genetics for certain. Lesson learned is that next year I need to start 3 weeks earlier so that I donít have to worry about pollinating during 4th of July . The one bright spot on my return home was my Russian mammoth has shown her face. This seed was from the seed exchange.

DAP 25 2200 Geddes 194lbs. The temp has been in the low 50s at night. It will be warming up in the next couple of days so hopefully that will have a positive affect on the growth

Dap 30 1866 Cleveland 291lbs. This is a little disappointing but Iím hoping that the slow growth is due to the cooler temps.. My leaves are in good health so hopefully we get some sustained summer temps and this pumpkin starts packing on the lbs. Iím trying to keep the mindset that this is a marathon and not a sprint.

8Ē of rainfall has abruptly ended my season today. The flash flood took out my entire patch. There had to been 6Ē of water flowing through the patch. I canít imagine that I will get any more growth. Iím just hoping that I can salvage the pumpkin and keep them from rotting. I will start the fans tomorrow as the water reseeds.

2200 Geddes x1866 Cleveland is now 721 Hockley. Not terrible considering is was involved in a flood.
